Potomac Lodge No. 5 has a long history in the Georgetown community, having existed here since its inception and before the formation of the District of Columbia. Our members include longtime residents of Georgetown and students from the area schools, and have contributed profoundly to the growth of our nation's capital.

As a Lodge, there are a variety of manners in which our work becomes public; perhaps the most visible of these is through our stewardship of the George Washington Gavel. Through this historic implement Potomac Lodge No. 5 has helped to lay the cornerstone for many public and private structures, and has educated tens of thousands about the history of Washington, DC and the Masonic Fraternity.

One of the most solemn ceremonies performed by Potomac Lodge is the Masonic Burial and Funeral Service. When requested by one of our members or his family, the Lodge will perform a special public ceremony commemorating the life of our deceased Brother. Potomac Lodge No. 5 takes great pride in the execution of this most important task, although it is one that is never looked forward to.

Potomac Lodge No. 5 also supports selected causes, both financially and with the time and effort of it members. We have been involved in projects such as the ongoing restoration of Congressional Cemetary; Hands On DC; the D.C. Special Olympics; DC ChIP (Childhood Identification Program); and visits to the DC VA Hospital. We are proud of our long association with "George Towne", and look forward to continuing our support for this vibrant community in the future.
