Welcome to Potomac Lodge’s Web Page! I hope that you who are not Masons, or who are brethren from other jurisdictions, will find your visit here to be useful and informative. For our members, this web page is also designed to be a regularly updated means of providing you with current scheduling information.

Potomac Lodge #5 is a Blue Lodge operating under the Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, of the District of Columbia. The primary focus of Blue Lodge Masonry is on finding and making new Master Masons. However, the Blue Lodge is also the basic organizational and social element of Freemasonry worldwide.

While the brethren of all Blue Lodges must conform to the principal tenets and ancient regulations and customs of Freemasonry, each Blue Lodge is also unique, in that it reflects the values, traditions, and culture of its membership. It is the unit where its brethren feel most "at home." Harmony, which is the strength and support of all well-regulated institutions, is especially valued in lodge operations and lodge fellowship. Since Masons personally and carefully screen individuals for membership, the unique values, traditions and culture of each Blue Lodge tends to be preserved over time, even though diversity is respected and encouraged as a Masonic tradition as well.

Potomac Lodge #5 is one of the more strong and traditional lodges in the District of Columbia. Its history, detailed elsewhere on this site, has been long and honorable, dating back to 1789; and our members have a proud sense of our heritage and our connections with Georgetown and with Worshipful Brother George Washington, the founder of our country, and other U.S. Presidents and luminaries over our long history.

Our membership is quite diverse, yet very loyal and enthusiastic. We maintain a proud tradition of performing excellent ritual and conducting the business of the Lodge efficiently and with solid stewardship. We respect and care for each other, and look after the welfare of our brethren who are in need regardless of their age or station in life. And we have a lot of fun together, both inside the Lodge and at our many varied social functions, including picnics, fishing trips, ball games, banquets, offsites and tours of sites of special Masonic interest.

Should any of you reading this page be interested in membership, please contact us. We will be glad to work together with you to evaluate whether your membership in the organization is of mutual interest and worth pursuing further. In any event, I wish each of you well!
